Mitla

Mitla Pictures

Today was another expedition day! THANK GOD—as I was going stir crazy. Note to self: Self—never go over a week without going someplace.

So, this morning I hopped a bus to Mitla.

A side note on the combination of roads and buses in Oaxaca. If you sit in the back, it will not matter if your bra is made of iron or if your 'too petite' to need a bra—you will be jiggled to death. I know I was. And the guy next to me got a free show …perv!

Anyway, thirty minutes later, I arrived in Mitla. I have to confess that is a bit of a tourist town. But, the ruins merit that. They aren’t as big as Monte Alban and more crowded than Yagul, but the friezes are amazing. Plus, there are tombs and you all know how I adore tombs!

What’s a frieze you ask? According to Websters.com: A decorative horizontal band, as along the upper part of a wall in a room.

And Mitla has friezes aplenty, and you do not see the same two side-by-side. Just they sheer volume and variation is mind-boggling. Now, throw in the fact they did NOT have metal tools or the wheel (so no grind stone) and you’ll be stunned!

I know I was (like a monkey).

Oooh. Preeettttyyyyy.

And now, back to the dead bugs on my patio.

P.S. Is it a sign of immaturity that I'm cracking up because my word verification word to post this is "fckdoozp?" Sounds like something an angry Jabberwocky might say.

P.P.S. Did you take your Mouseketools to Mitla. HA!

Wow! It continues to amaze me that the Church totally tromped on these incredible people. Love the "peek-a-boo" shot : )

And my ver. word was jrktezmd. "Jerked his med"? "Hey, buddy, leggo my med!"

Call me nuts..but both those verifications sound 'dirty'. Mine is bwczvi. Sounds klingon!

And I forgot the 'Mousketool' (again, sounds dirty!!)

Well, we all know where my mind is!

You're not nuts, you're...well, you know ;)

So fill in for the rest of us: what's a "Mouseketool"?

Ver. word: ekrfyr. One who "eks"?

Oh, I tho't Tracy's word and Cathy's word both sounded dirty. Mine is pihrzqxn and I can't come up with anything dirty for that.

On your road comment -- the 1.5 lane thing -- when we were in Belize, a bus driver told us that the law of the road was the bigger vehicle has the right of way. In the bus, we usually had the r-o-w but one time there was a big ol' honkin' truck comin' at us way fast. Those Latin American drivers are all insane . . .

And I am glad to read that you are fine b/c in the paper the other day (I actually read one), it said that there had been bombings in your little town. Although, I knew you were safe at home writing. :)

Penn, who is ALONE for 3 or 4 days WHOO-HOO

Ok, just had to say the ver. word that showed as I was checking out the comments was "tutufux".
No imagination necessary there.

Yeah, writing...that's what I'm doing. :-) Actually--no bombings although a couple have people have emailed me to ask. For the most part, the American media is waaaaayyyyy off. I'll be blogging about it later if Blogger decides to behave. Right now--I can't get in!! (verification word--knnfyk. Also--no explanation needed!)
